Snow Continues to Fall Across the Wasatch....

As the North American winter continues here in northern Utah, the Wasatch receives another 7-8" of new snow, with an additional 6-12" rolling in tonight and tomorrow!  Snowbird extends their season until June 20th, as mid mountain bases are at 120" and growing.  What started off as a mediocre season here in the Wasatch, has now become another steller season.  This 2009/2010 season has already reached the 600" snowfall mark in the Cottonwood Canyons and the forecast is for continued snow through the week!  Late May is feeling more like late March & early April.  Check out some of our photos on yesterday's tour at the closed Deer Valley Resort......

Valle Nevado Resort, Chile- Masterplan

The Valle Nevado Ski Resort near Santiago, Chile has some very exciting new plans over the next 3 years.  To kick off the quickly approcahing 2010 season, Valle Nevado has installed 2 new lifts and 5 new runs, which really broadens this already massive South American ski complex, which is located 1.5 hours above the metropolis of Santiago.

Read more below to see their plans:

US$40 Million Inveseted To Renew Chile’s Largest Ski Resort
Written by Laura French

Valle Nevado to renovate its hotels, apartments, and sporting sites

A master plan has been put into place to transform Valle Nevado into a year round ski resort town.  Over the next three years, US$40 million will be invested in the town in order to create a “comfortable place with parking, service and a platform of restaurants,” says Valle Nevado general manager Ricardo Margulis.

“We have always wanted to convert Valle Nevado into a mountain town, that has both summer and winter attractions,” said Abrajam Senerman, an architect working on the master plan.

Valle Nevado, a popular ski resort 70 km from Santiago, was established in 1986.  Nestled in the Andes, Valle Nevado has 9,000 skiable hectares spread over 37 kilometers of runs.  Ski season is between the beginning of June and the beginning of October, though the resort is open year round.

Valle Nevado offers not only traditional skiing, but also snowboarding, heli-skiing, hang gliding, heli-surf, hiking, horseback riding, and rock climbing.  The resort also has the only super snowboarding half pipe in South America.

Chile is known for its Andes skiing throughout the northern hemisphere.  It is a popular destination for Olympic training and family vacations alike, as the best conditions here correspond with the summer months in the United States and Europe.  Valle Nevado is located near two other well-known and respected ski resorts, La Parva and El Colorado, in an area called Los Tres Valles.

Currently, the ski resort offers the biggest ski-able surface in South America, three hotels, eight restaurants, and apartments. Valle Nevado will expand business in the summer and improve the skiing experience in the winter months.  As part of the plan, the group will build at least one new building per year over the next 15 years.  At the end of next year, there will be 260 apartments for sale.

Additionally, the existing hotels will be renovated.  US$1 million will be invested in the Valle Nevado hotel this year.  A premium hotel, to be built by 2014, will be run by an international chain.

The businessmen behind the plan are excited about the future of Valle Nevado and the demand the new renovations will create.  “When a project is good, demand is created.  We are positive that we have a really good project, so we will also have a very high demand,” adds Senerman.

Wasatch Gets Dumped on May 2, 2010.....

Incredible snows are still falling across the Wasach Range May 2, 2010.  This storm began on April 29th and has come in like a lion, delivering 60"+ to the mountains over the past 4 days.  Conditions are like mid February as Utah continues to build its base depths at most of its closed resorts (Snowbird will be open till at least Memorial Day and maybe longer if the snows continue to pile up) and in the beautiful backcountry terrain.  Snow depths are upwards of 140-150" and its getting deeper.... Check out some photos and come join Endless Turns for some late season powder

Great Corn Conditions-April 21, 2009

Corn conditions were ideal last week in the Wasatch, just about as buttery as they get.  Early starts were important, as the snow became elephant snot by about 11 AM.  The Toledo Chute and Flagstaff Ridge were in perfect form, starting with the East facing, then moving towards the South, and finally to the West facing slopes.  The steep pitches were really fun, as the corn cascaded down behind you, like you were slicing through big fields of butter.... Check out the pics to see all the fun!

Conditions in the Wasatch are a mix of steller conditions in the late spring with blower powder and others which are character building, such as the recent elephant snot and breakable crust.  However, the images below are more of those desirable late season turns we all love so much- beautiful powder in the high alpine to corn in the middle elevations....

Big Snow in the Andes

The Andes have been blanketed with up to 6 feet of new snow since the snows began falling across the Patagonian Andes on July 27, 2008.! From Ushuaia, up to Bariloche and San Martin, snow has been piling up and improving the bases depths dramatically. Las Lenas has also been experiencing the recent snowfalls, with up to 2 feet new this past week alone. Endless Turns has been enjoying all of the great new powder out there and much more is in the forecast! Our recent trips to the "End of the Earth" on the island of Tierra del Fuego and to the Lakes District of Patagonia could not have been better, as everyone enjoyed the over abundance of face shots and long powder runs. We still have some space on our trips in August and September.  From the great skiing to the limitless cultural activities, Endless Turns will take you there!!!
